Assistant Director of Junior Programs
The Rock Club’s Assistant Director of Junior Programs (JP) is a key supervisory role in the operation of our recreational youth programs. In the role, you work closely with our Director of Junior Programs (DJP) to manage week-to-week operations, plan lessons, and schedule staff. You are also the “on the ground” manager for our programs, teaching multiple days a week and acting as a role model for our JP instructor team.
Responsibilities
- Work with DJP to train and manage our JP staff in order to create a positive and enthusiastic team culture
- Head weekly JP classes and directly supervise other instructors
- Oversee weekly lesson plans and curriculum
- Schedule instructors for camps and other youth programs
- Handle customer issues and questions related to our junior programs in an effective and timely manner
- Assist with larger gym wide events
- General customer service, setting, or maintenance work as needed and able
Job Requirements
- Has a passion for rock climbing and working with children of all ages
- 1 – 2 years minimum experience coaching youth climbers. Additional supervisory/management experience a plus
- Is endlessly enthusiastic, positive, and patient with our JP participants, and is comfortable working with difficult children (and their parents!)
- Possesses strong leadership qualities. Ability to communicate with and motivate others
- Well organized and able to manage programming materials
- Availability to work a minimum of 4 days of classes each week (approx. 16 hours) plus additional administrative work. Additional full-time hours available for qualified applicants
- Basic Windows office computer skills - ability to use MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Additional Information
- Position can be filled as either part-time or full-time. Part-Time is 20 – 30 hours each week. Full-time is 30+ hours. Full-time may include additional responsibilities around the gym.
- Starting salary range: $18 - $22 per hour. Additional benefits include retail store discounts, free membership, plus 401K and healthcare plans for full-time employees.

Belayer
The Rock Club is looking for enthusiastic and passionate individuals with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to join our team as a belayer. In the position, you will top rope belay for children and adults during birthday parties, groups, and private appointments.
Responsibilities
- Top rope belay customers during appointments and facilitate excellent climbing experiences for them.
- Assist in set-up for groups, parties, and special events.
- Understand and enforce TRC’s facility rules.
- Enforce a supervised and controlled environment for our customers.
- Select routes appropriate for the customer’s age and experience level.
- Provide additional information about and upsell TRC’s programs and products.
Job Requirements
- Have a passion for climbing and a willingness to learn and grow within the role.
- Positivity and enthusiasm that you channel into motivating others and creating exceptional experiences for them.
- Willingness to work with customers to help them overcome fears and find success in climbing
- Prior experience in customer service or working with youth preferred.
- Ability to top rope belay or a willingness to learn. We will train you!
- Availability to work weekends and a minimum of 4 shifts each month, 3 - 6 hours per shift.
Additional Information
- This is a part time position. Compensation includes hourly wage ($15), tips, retail store discounts, and a free membership.
- Belayers will sign up for shifts on a schedule that is published weekly. Shift times will vary week to week.
- Top rope belaying can be taught. No experience necessary!
Junior Program Instructor
Instructors for Junior Programs are motivated individuals with a passion for climbing and working with kids. Our instructors work with children in our afterschool and camp programs to provide excellent climbing experiences, teach them about climbing, and support their growth in the sport.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children during youth programming and create a safe and controlled environment.
- Communicate effectively with children of different ages, abilities, and needs.
- Teach climbing skills from lesson plans guided by a head instructor, and provide students with individual attention to help them advance.
- Communicate with your head instructor about any feedback, development, or issues with the class or the children you work with.
- Through compassion, empathy, and creativity, create a climbing environment that allows all children to find success.
Requirements
- Have a passion for climbing and working with youth, an interest in teaching, and willingness to grow your skills through coaching and feedback.
- Positivity and enthusiasm that you channel into motivating others and creating exceptional experiences for them.
- Ability to recognize long term change and progress in children’s climbing and modify teaching to help continue that progress.
- Willingness and patience to work through challenging situations.
- Ability to top rope belay strongly preferred.
- Prior experience coaching or working with youth is preferred.
- Availability to work a weekly schedule of classes, 3 - 10 hours per week, primarily on afternoons and Saturdays, for up to 15 consecutive weeks (depending on the season).
- Optionally, availability to work camps during school breaks and summers.

- This is a part time position. Compensation includes hourly wage ($15.50 - $17 based on experience), retail store discounts, and a free membership.
- Top rope belaying can be taught if you are unfamiliar.
- All Junior Program instructors qualify to be trained as and signed up for additional shifts outside of their regular class schedule.
