Kyle Douglas
Kyle Douglas
Climbing + Coaching Experience
Kyle has been climbing for 10+ years, with experience in both recreational and competitive climbing. While he currently focuses mostly on bouldering, he spent much of his formative climbing years rope climbing.
Kyle has been coaching for more than 6 years. His experience includes private lessons with adults and teens of all skill levels, coaching national-level competitive youth climbers, and working with a USA Climbing nationally ranked paraclimber.
He also brings routesetting experience into his coaching, helping climbers better understand movement, route reading, and problem-solving on the wall.
Best-Fit Students
Kyle works best with teens and adults of all levels who are motivated to take the next step in their climbing journey. He is a strong fit for climbers who are willing to work hard during lessons and continue building on that work in their own time.
Specialties include bouldering technique, effective projecting, endurance, power endurance, coordination, general fitness, goal setting, route reading, navigating mental barriers, competition preparation and helping climbers push past plateaus.
What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“A lesson with me always starts by setting an intention for the time we are sharing. We’ll get a clear sense of where you are that day, what your main goals are, and what we can focus on to move you forward.
From there, we may work on refining route reading skills, improving comfort on the wall, strength training, drills and addressing mental barriers. Every lesson is individualized, and the best results come from recurring sessions where we can track your progress over time.”
Nathan Gilwit
Nathan Gilwit
Climbing + Coaching Experience
Nathan has been climbing boulders and top rope for 11+ years and lead climbing for 5 years. He has been coaching at The Rock Club for 3 years, with experience ranging from brand-new climbers to advanced students looking to refine their skills and continue their progression.
Best-Fit Students
Teens and adults, especially intermediate to advanced and adaptive climbers.
Specialties include climbing fundamentals, targeted drills, introducing advanced movement concepts, identifying strengths and weaknesses, breaking down complex movement, and helping students understand the “why” behind technique.
What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“In the first lesson, I aim to jump right in and get my student on the wall as soon as possible.
It’s important for me to get to know who I’m working with both on and off the wall, so I ask a lot of questions to better understand the climber’s goals, movement, mindset, and decision-making.
From there, I’ll create a clear plan based on the climber’s current level, goals, and areas for growth.”

Billie "Kay" Mackay

Best-Fit Students
Kay works well with a wide range of students, including kids, teens, and adults. They are especially strong at breaking down beta for newer climbers in a way that feels clear, approachable, and effective.
Kay’s coaching is a strong fit for beginner to intermediate climbers, neurodivergent and neurotypical students, and climbers who benefit from patient, flexible, and individualized instruction.
What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“My lessons are flexible and shaped around the individual student. Depending on what they need, we might start with warm-ups or light stretching, then focus on ropes for endurance, bouldering, projecting, or targeted drills.
I like to give students room to try things on their own, make mistakes, and learn from them, while helping redirect them when they get stuck or keep trying the same approach.”

I give positive feedback along with clear areas for growth, and I encourage students to reflect on what went well and what they can continue working on.
My coaching style is gentle but firm, and I help students understand that falling and trying hard moves are part of learning. For kids, I also like to connect with parents before and after the session so everyone feels supported.”

What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“Regardless of age or climbing level, I always include some kind of warm-up, whether that means starting on an easier climb or doing physical exercises off the wall.
From there, I can offer general technique adjustments or more targeted micro-beta. I like to keep lessons light-hearted but on track, setting goals so each climb feels more purposeful.”
Gia Guzman
Gia Guzman
Climbing + Coaching Experience
Gia has been bouldering and rope climbing at The Rock Club for more than 4 years. Gia also has about a year and a half of experience coaching youth climbers ages 4 to 15 through TRC’s Youth Programs.
Best-Fit Students
Beginners and intermediate climbers of all ages. Bouldering, Top Rope, and Lead climbing.
What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“My lessons are casual, supportive, and low-pressure. I like to start with an off-the-wall warm-up to wake up the muscles and joints used most in climbing, then transition onto the wall with easy movement to help the climber get into a climbing mindset.
From there, we may work on basic techniques before applying those skills to climbs that feel appropriately challenging. My hope is that climbers not only become stronger in these areas but also gain confidence in their ability to solve problems on their own.
I like to end with a short stretch, reflection on the session, and a conversation about the climber’s goals moving forward. I can also provide at-home exercises to help climbers stay active on days they don’t climb or support their recovery.”

What can someone expect in a lesson with you?
“In a typical lesson with me, I emphasize warming up the entire body. We’ll start on the ground with light stretching tailored to the climber’s goals and any potential limitations they may have. From there, we’ll start easy and steadily progress toward working on a project.
I’m naturally a vocal and encouraging coach, and I like to help climbers push toward their natural limits while also focusing on the mental side of climbing.”

I work best when climbers have an idea of what they want to focus on, but I can also help identify areas for growth and build a productive lesson around them.”

I like to break movement down into manageable steps, provide clear feedback, and help climbers understand why a technique works instead of simply telling them what to do.
Whether someone is climbing for the first time or looking to improve their skills, I want every lesson to be enjoyable, productive, and tailored to their individual goals.”
