USTA Eastern Sectional Champs The Volley Girls Prepping For Nationals

The countdown for the 2016 USTA Nationals in Tucson, Arizona has begun and the New Rochelle Racquet Club’s own Women’s 3.0 40+ team is working hard to prepare. It’s been a long journey beginning with the regular tennis season which started last April, followed by the local, regional and sectional playoffs leading to the National playoffs 10/14-16.

The group of players representing The Volley Girls will be:

• Cathy Sheer
• Karen Regan
• Molly Broaddus
• Frannie Pollack
• Shelley Wahl
• Brenda Gordon
• Andrea Fage
• Darcy Froehlich

This is a big accomplishment and even more so since this team is new, just having been formed last year. For many of the players, last season was their first taste of competition. Team practices led by New Rochelle Racquet Club coaches Josh Bill, Jeff Scott, and Dean Won are focused on getting this team ready to compete. The team has also been scrimmaging outdoors against players from other NRRC teams.

“It’s been great captaining this young team that has so much potential” says team captain Eileen Riemerschmid. “We’re all very excited to participate in the tournament.”

The support offered by other teams to help us prepare has been great. The team is very excited and can’t wait to get to Tucson and to hopefully bring the National Champions Banner back home to the New Rochelle Racquet Club, the county of Westchester, and the city of New Rochelle.
