My name is Nick Lee (he/him), and I recently completed my second year as a masters student in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. During my time in the program, I have been the mental skills coach for multiple varsity collegiate teams, including Tufts Men’s XC/T&F and Wellesley Volleyball. I have also been providing sport psychology services to adult and junior tennis players. Through my coaching, I help athletes and teams develop the mental skills to thrive within their sport and improve their overall enjoyment of it. I often emphasize how these mental skills can serve as transferable life skills to be utilized in various performance domains in one’s life. Prior to graduate school, I was a staff tennis pro at New Rochelle Racquet Club from August 2020 to August 2021. My own tennis experience includes playing varsity collegiate tennis at Vassar College (Class of 2019).
As a mental skills coach, I am offering sport psychology services to members of NRRC of all ages and tennis levels to help you reach your full potential as a tennis player and improve your overall enjoyment of your tennis experience. I am available for individual consultations and group/team workshops. Skills can include, but are not limited to, goal setting, mindfulness training, relaxation training, confidence training, self-talk, imagery, and communication skills.
My approach to coaching is integrative and client-centered, grounded primarily in acceptance and commitment theory and other mindfulness-based interventions. I aim to help those I work with develop a more mindful disposition and other mental skills that contribute to personal growth, sport enjoyment, performance optimization, and injury recovery. I take an emotion focus to help the client better understand the root of their emotions and develop a healthier relationship with them within the sport context. I believe that one of our primary goals as humans is the continuous improvement of the inner self. Importantly, these mental skills can be utilized in other areas of life.
I am incredibly excited to be returning to NRRC in a new role this spring and summer!
